How A Root Canal Procedure Works

If we determine a root canal treatment is necessary, the following procedures will occur:

  • We will remove the infection and the surrounding area as needed.
  • We’ll shape the canals, so they no longer hold any harmful bacteria. Depending on the severity of the infection, it may take time to shape and reshape the tooth’s hollow cavities.
  • Canals will be filled with our specialized, long-lasting material.
  • Our dentists will restore the tooth to its full functionality with an artificial crown made of gold, porcelain, or other suitable materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

Crestmead Dental is a family-owned dental practice located in Crestmead, Queensland. We are committed to providing comprehensive and quality dental care for our patients. Our experienced team of dentists specialise in all areas of oral health, including root canal treatments and improving the shape of teeth.

Root canal treatment is a procedure used to repair and save a badly damaged or decayed tooth. The process involves removing the infected inner part of the tooth, sealing it off and restoring it with a crown or filling to prevent further damage. It is usually performed when the nerve of a tooth is infected or inflamed.

Root canal treatment can help to relieve pain and discomfort caused by an infected or damaged tooth, as well as protect the tooth from further damage. It also helps to maintain your natural teeth, while avoiding the need for implants or bridges.

During a root canal treatment, your Crestmead Dental dentist will first anaesthetise the area to ensure you are comfortable throughout the procedure. They will then remove the damaged and infected tissue from inside your tooth, clean it and seal it off. Depending on the condition of the tooth, a crown or filling may be used to restore it.

The length of time for a root canal treatment can vary depending on the complexity of the procedure and the condition of the tooth. Generally, the process can take anywhere from one to two visits, each lasting around an hour.

The recovery period for a root canal treatment usually takes about 10-14 days. During this time, it’s important to practise good oral hygiene, avoid eating hard or crunchy foods and keep the affected area clean.

Most patients experience little to no discomfort during root canal treatment. Any discomfort felt is usually minimal and can be managed with over-the-counter painkillers such as ibuprofen. Crestmead Dental dentists also offer sedation options to ensure patients feel as comfortable as possible throughout their treatment.

After a root canal treatment, Crestmead Dental may recommend follow up visits for monitoring the health of the tooth. This can be done through X-rays or regular check-ups to ensure the treatment was successful.

The cost of root canal treatment at Crestmead Dental depends on a variety of factors, such as the complexity of the procedure and the condition of the tooth. We recommend speaking to our team to get an accurate estimate of the cost of your treatment.

Many dental insurance plans will provide partial coverage for root canal treatments, depending on your plan and the complexity of the procedure. Crestmead Dental is happy to assist you with any questions regarding coverage and payment options.
